Political Empowerment of Roma Women "Roma Women Can Do It"

In the period from 30 December 2011 until 28 February 2013, WCI ANTIKO implemented the project "Roma Women Can Do It ", which aimed to answer the need for effective and continuous access in the process of building a educated and enhanced women infrastructure within the Roma political parties . The activities carried out in the period from 30 December 2011 to 31 May 2012 were founded by the Open Society Institute in Budapest ( Initiative to strengthen Roma women ) and were designed to enhance the female identity and power - increasing self-awareness , self-confidence and motivation for active participation in public and political life ; increasing political and managerial knowledge , skills and abilities ; capacity building of Roma women to identify gender issues and implementation of public actions in the community .

Within the project (based on the model given in the program “Women Can Do It” the Norwegian Labour Party ) will be trained 50 young Roma women , members of political parties and women active in the community and women students who have interest to engage in political processes of the country . The acquired knowledge and skills they will continue to apply in their political parties and community through public actions focused on specific problems. This way the trained activists will continue to develop skills in lobbying , public advocacy , animating, creating new female networking / allies who will work on finding solutions and institutional mechanisms. With the implementation of the project " Roma Women Can Do It" ANTIKO expected to contribute towards opening new opportunities and perspectives in increasing public activism and political participation of Roma women. In this context, all our efforts are directed to help the Roma women and Roma political parties to have educated woman infrastructure, whose activism and the impact will be visible in the community from the perspective of overcoming the problems and participation of women in decision-making. In the period from 1 September 2012 until 28 February 2013, the project activities were supported by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva.

The purpose of these activities is to contribute towards increasing the number of Roma women in public and political life in the country and continued access to the building of educated and enhanced women infrastructure within the Roma political parties. The project activities are planned in a way that allows the continuation of the project " Roma Women Can Do It " , and upgrading and maintaining the program "Women Can Do It " , ie its transition to a more advanced stage . The activities aimed at strengthening the female identity and power - increasing political managerial knowledge , skills and abilities , increase self-confidence and motivation for active participation in public and political life ; enhancing the knowledge and skills of the target group to identify gender issues and the inclusion of the gender dimension in public and political activism of Roma women (Gender education for men and women) and the implementation of public actions in the community. The project is planned to include Roma youth (men and women), representatives of Roma political parties, activists and students who are interested in actively engage in public and political life of the community for upgrading their knowledge and skills on gender issues and political empowerment, in order to connect with each other and create conditions for young Roma women to realize their ideas and activities in communities in the field of politics.

The acquired knowledge and skills they will continue to apply in their political parties and community through public actions focused on specific problems. Through this type of activity , trained activists (women and men) will develop skills in lobbying , public advocacy , animating istomislenicite or creating a new female networking / and allies . At the end of the project we expect the opening of new opportunities and perspectives in increasing public activism and political participation of Roma women . In this context , all our efforts to help the Roma women and Roma political parties have educated woman infrastructure , whose activism and the impact will be visible in the community from the perspective of overcoming the problems and participation of women in decision -making .
