PROJECT:
“Through Education and Strengthening toward Social Inclusion and Active Citizenship”
Date: 5/1/2009

“Through Education and Strengthening toward Social Inclusion and Active Citizenship” is a new project which ANTIKO began to realize on 01.05.2008 in 4 rural units of local government of the Republic. Macedonia: Lipkovo, Mogila, Tearce and Krushevo. The project was implemented in three phases in collaboration and financial support of UN Women - Office Skopje.

In the period May-August 2009 over two hundred (200) participants from the 16 ethnic minority villages of the aforementioned municipalities have passed in 2 cycles of 32 workshops where they upgraded their knowledge and skills on related topics and activities based on human / women, gender concepts by using interactive approaches , experiential learning (education, support, promotion)-which contributed to strengthening women's identity and power out the problems and needs of the individual community-level gender, level of group and community level. As a result of the workshops were created local action plans with multiple activities to provide visibility and solving the identified problems and needs. The local actions were initiated and implemented by the target group that participated on the workshops and the gender education trainings.

After the successful implementation of the first phase of the project in 2009 with the initiative of UN WOMEN, to the mutual satisfaction we decided to continue our cooperation in 2010/2011 - year. ANTIKO in May started with the implementation of the second phase of this project. With the target group of rural women from ethnic minorities during May was implement the first phase of the project - collecting information by the local coordinators regarding the facts of the situation of rural women and targeting their priority problems and needs. In July we started with the implementation of the first cycle of 16 workshops for the first group of participants.

In the period from July 2011 to April 2012 Women's Civic Initiative ANTIKO in Tearce and Krusevo implement and realize the third phase of the project. From July 2011 to April 2012, in Tearce and Krusevo, ANTIKO focused on increasing the activism and initiative of women from different ethnic communities and their active involvement in socio-economic and political life of the community. In order to achieve the set goals, the project included the following activities: two cycles of educational workshops that included 117 women from minority communities in rural areas, implementation of local actions by the target groups, organizing study tours in the country and the region to exchange experiences and good practices, and regular working meetings and public advocacy and collaboration with local government and other stakeholders in the community.

Capacity building of the target groups for civic activism and economic involvement is a key factor for the implementation of the public actions in the communities and the influence of the women's groups in decision-making processes in local communities.
