The new Antico’s project “Women Can Do It 2008/2009” in partnership with Norwegian People’s Aid is starting out

The motto of the project for this year is Partnership for Parity Democracy.
From 1 September is starting out a new cycle of activities on the project “Women Can Do It” 2008/2009, which Antico is continually implementing since 2002 in the local communities of the Republic of Macedonia.

In this cycle is planned to be organised 7 seminars for political strengthening of women and 6 public actions in the communities.
“Women Can Do It” is a programme that is being implemented in many countries in the world. Its purposes are strengthening of women from political parties, syndicates, civil society organisations and media, in order to actively involve women in the public and political life in the country. The programme fosters gender equality and increasing of the number of women in the decision-making processes.

Within this programme from 2002 until 2007, Antico carried out 40 two-day seminars with total number of 992 direct participants at the seminars. As a result of the seminars, 27 intersectoral informal networks are formed by the participants and carried out 207 varied follow up activities in the community on women’s issues and attaining gender equality in the Republic of Macedonia.

Direct participants in the local actions are evidenced 5 171, while indirect 52 773 and the wider public in Macedonia.
Other results
Within these follow up activities is being achieved the following: printed out 52 567 gender sensitive promotional and informational materials – brochures, leaflets, t-shirts, with contents for adoption of affirmative measures – quotas and other institutional mechanisms, contribution to eliminating violence against women, actions for promotion and protection of women’s human rights in many fields, inclusion of the rural women in the public and political life, etc.

Besides this, for this purpose are organised 20 panels with 1794 participants women and men; 98 media presentations and articles; 7 press-conferences with 180 present guests; 16 gender surveys, polls, analysis with 2658 respondents, 5 public debates with 68 participants from relevant structures; 2 expositions; 1 TV poll (40 participants); 3 TV debates with 42 participants; 120 meetings of the intersectoral networks; 16 street performances with 511 participants – for public advocating, lobbying and disseminating promotional and informational materials; 4 internal and 2 external evaluations; 5 evaluation seminars.

Regarding the fact that in March 2009 will be held the local elections, as participants at the seminars will be invited to participate women from the political parties, candidates for mayors and counsellors.

To this end, Antico will timely inform all relevant structures for the further activities, for greater motivation of women for their active involvement in the public and political life in the community. It is foreseen the seminars to be organised in: Debar, Gostivar, Bitola, Tetovo, Krusevo, Gevgelija and Skopje.

The main objectives of the WCDI 2008/2009 are:
·         Increasing of the self-confidence, strengthening and motivating of women from the local communities for their active inclusion in the public and political life in the community
·         Increasing of the political and managerial skills and abilities of women from the political parties and the candidates from the electoral lists of the political parties
·         Impact on increasing the communication and establishing intersectoral cooperation among the women from different parties’ structures and professions in the local communities and their joint acting on the institutional mechanisms for gender equality issues at local and national level.
·         Activities:
·         Printing out WCDI materials
·         Establishing cooperation with the relevant structures (political parties, local self-government, commissions for equal opportunities media, trade unions)Organising seminars in: Skopje, Debar, Gostivar, Bitola, Tetovo, Krusevo, and Gevgelija
·         Networking – forming at least 5 intersectoral networks by the participants at the seminar and undertaking at least 5 public actions regarding the identified problems and needs in the community
·         Planned technical and financial support from Antico to the newly formed intersectoral networks by the participants at the seminars
·         Monitoring
·         External and internal evaluation
·         Seminar for analysis and evaluation of the achieved results
